So here we are: Hallowe'en is over, all those anglo, FOB McGill kids in fishnets lined up at the end of my street to see Rocky Horror have gone home and taken those goddamn wigs off, and suddenly we all woke up and it was November.  November!  Crazy talk.  This weekend the clocks are getting turned back and it's gonna start getting dark at like, 2pm.   We're hurtling towards winter with blinding speed, people, and in Montreal that means one thing: get your kicks in now.  Pretty soon the snow and the slush and the skin-burning wind are gonna come and clamp down on your catbag and nobody's gonna want to do anything except stay inside and watch movies and fuck.  Including you.  So hopefully you've got someone to do that with.

Which you probably do if you're reading this website, because it means you're probably a lesbian, which means you're probably having an "in night" right fucking now.  You've probably got HERBAL TEA in your hand, don't you?  You probably just shooed the cat away from it, didn't you?  Which is even more reason for you (and your ladyfriend who may or may not be cooking with lentils in the other room at the moment) to get off your LEZZY ASSES and go out and do something, before the cold moves in and you don't even need to rattle off any of the old excuses for why you're "just not feeling up to it."

You can start by going to see Alex Whyte (www.myspace.com/alexwhyte) tonight at the V-Day fundraiser at McGill.  V Day (www.vday.org) is all about ending gender-based violence, as you no doubt are as well.  There's generally a production of the Vagina Monologues that goes along with the campus campaign, which can be a bit of a snoozer, not gonna lie, but if you want to debate trans-inclusivity and essentialism and all that bladdy-blah, then freshen your chops and go see the play (I don't actually know when it is, though I'm sure you could be a keener and find out).  Everyone should at least once.  The fundraiser, however, which should involve fewer barstools and more ACTUAL bar, is going down tonight at Gert's, which is in the basement of the SSMU building on McTavish.  Starts around 9.

If you're not so much into the poon and/or poon-related fundraisers, then the CLIKS (www.thecliks.com) show is coming up too.  They're playing at Le Gymnase this Saturday (4177 St-Denis), and it's one of their last shows before they head out on tour with the Cult.  It's 12 bucks (cheap!), and the band is all-girl save for Lucas, the trannyboy lead singer.  Dude was on "Q" with Jian Ghomeshi on radio one yesterday (you can download the podcast I think if you go to www.cbc.ca/radio).  Jian (whose voice has been really starting to piss me off lately) asked the predictable questions about his transition and whether or not "girls" can write "angry" music, with proper lip service to ani, and even felt the need to broadcast his former name at the fucking top of the interview (seriously hope he asked about that one first, fuck).  But for what it's worth, Lucas seemed articulate and personable, and though I am completely unfamiliar with their music except on a very basic level, I recommend you go check them out.  That's THIS Saturday.  The 12th.  Tomorrow.

And if those things don't tickle your fancy then I'm sure something else will (ass pirates party tonight?), and I encourage you to DO IT.  Because I'm not lying - our days are numbered here in La Belle Ville, and it's important that we stock up now on reasons why we live in this town, because in just a few short weeks we're going to start forgetting them.

Know that, ladies.  And enjoy your weekends.
