Julie Faubert s’intéresse à l’espace qu’occupe/inoccupe le corps en Occident. Son travail de création a été présenté dans de nombreuses expositions individuelles et collectives au Québec, au Canada et en Europe. Elle développe actuellement un projet de recherche qui porte sur l’installation sonore dans l’espace urbain (Ph. D en aménagement, Université de Montréal). Par sa toute récente intervention urbaine, http://lesmots.dare-dare.org/, elle s’intéresse à l’espace public comme lieu de réflexion collective.

Cartographie sonore est un projet de marche sonore qui amalgame réel et fantaisie, ouvrant ainsi l'espace du quartier à une lecture complexe. La trame urbaine y est documentée, magnifiée, troublée. Julie Faubert se demande si réel = vrai ou mieux, si faux = imaginaire. Elle nous laisse dans le doute.

Emily Laliberté est une artiste multidisciplinaire qui explore, par son travail, le large spectre de l'identité féminine. Portant la voix d'étrangères, ses récits de rencontres questionnent notre rapport à la réalité et à la fiction. Parmi les expositions marquantes à son actif, notons Perspective à la Anaid Gallery (Roumanie), en 2008, ainsi que Gender Alarm à la Centrale Galerie Powerhouse, en 2009. En octobre prochain, elle présentera Denise, sa toute dernière poésie-action, à la 5ième Biennale d'art performatif de Rouyn-Noranda.

After/Before Des éclats de paillettes dans les yeux, le fushia des murs, un dimanche qui avait des airs de lendemain de pyjama party... After/Before nous plonge dans l'univers des voisines d'à côté, 4 femmes, quelques histoires, une touche d'intimité, un voyage au coeur du quotidien.

k.g. Guttman a une maîtrise en arts médiatiques de l’Université Concordia pour laquelle elle a étudié pendant un semestre, entre autres, à DasArts, Amsterdam, au programme d’études supérieures en performance. Sa pratique artistique recoupe la danse, la performance et les arts visuels, et donne lieu à des expositions, à des résidences artistiques et à des performances diverses. Ses projets les plus récents comprennent une résidence au Pavillon, Palais de Tokyo (Paris) ainsi qu’une résidence avec la Compagnie David Rolland (Nantes) dans le cadre des Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes. Elle a aussi présenté ses photos à L’espace Blank (Paris) à la suite d’une invitation de Christine Macel.

Juillet Pendant le mois juillet, j’approche des gens tout le long du boul. Saint-Laurent pour leur demander si je peux les accompagner jusqu'à leur destination. En allant vers la destination d’un autre, certains aspects secondaires de la ville se révèlent.

It's Not Impossible- It's Public Mona Sharma s’est donné comme objectif d’offrir aux résidents du voisinage la chance d’assumer le rôle de l’artiste et d’imaginer leur projet artistique public idéal pour le boul. Saint-Laurent. Par la suite, elle a dessiné des diagrammes de leurs suggestions. Son défi a alors consisté à trouver les moyens de regrouper harmonieusement toutes les idées proposées.

Virginie Jourdain est artiste et militante, membre de la collective Dyke Rivers, coordinatrice des expositions à La Centrale. À travers sa démarche artistique, elle interroge la mise en formes et en normes des identités. Décryptant les discours courants, et les expertises : juridiques, médicales, culturelles et politiques, elle s'attache à reformuler des pratiques, objets et gestes qui semblent anodins mais qui impliquent pourtant des formes d' exclusions et de discriminations.

Florence S. Larose est fraîchement diplômée de l’Université Concordia en Intermedia/Cyberarts. Après une brève dérive du côté de la production télévisuelle, elle travaille la vidéo, les découpures de magazines, la flûte à coulisse et le sirop de maïs. Obsédée par les soaps opera, le karaoké et les cheveux synthétiques, elle explore avec un brin de folie les intersections entre culture populaire et féminisme.

Dégustation pro-choix et performance spermicide Le 4 mai dernier la sénatrice conservatrice Nancy Ruth a suggéré aux femmes rassemblées sur la colline parlementaire en mai dernier pour manifester en faveur du droit à l’avortement de « se fermer la gueule » (« shut the fuck up ») à ce sujet, afin d’éviter que la situation ne s’envenime à l’issue du G8 et par rapport au plan de santé maternelle dans les pays en voie de développement.

En réaction à ces propos anti-féministes, les artistes Florence S. Larose et Virginie Jourdain offrent simultanément la dégustation d’une œuvre culinaire engagée et l'extermination en direct de spermatozoïdes recueillis à La Centrale le jour-même. Une véritable communion, donc, où semence et glaçage se confondent pour exprimer une hargne collective contre le conservatisme politique.

Julie Faubert is interested in the space that is occupied/unoccupied by the body in western society. Her work has been presented in many solo and group exhibitions in Canada and in Europe. She is presently working on a research project regarding sound installations in urban environments (PHD in urban planning, Université de Montréal). Through her most recent urban intervention, http://lesmots.dare-dare.org/, she explores the urban space as a terrain for collective reflection.

Cartographie Sonore An urban walk project that fuses the real and the imagined in a way that opens up the neighbourhood space to a more complex reading. Through Faubert’s intervention the urban soundtrack is altered, magnified, troubled. The artist poses the question : does real=true? Or, better, does fake=imagined? We are left in doubt.

Emily Laliberté is a multidiciplinary visual artist who explores, through her work, the large spectre of feminine identity. Voicing the words of strangers, her tales of encounters question our relationship to reality and fiction. Her recent shows include Perspectives at Anaid Gallery (Romania) in 2008, and Gender Alarm, at La Centrale, in 2009. Next October, she will present Denise, a poetry-action, at la 5ième Biennale d'art performatif de Rouyn-Noranda.

After/Before Glitters and sparkles in the eyes, the fuschia-colored walls, a Sunday that seems like the day after a pyjama party...After/Before immerses us in the universe of our next door neighbours: four women, a few stories, a touch of intimacy, a trip at the heart of the everyday.

k.g. Guttman earned her Masters in Fine Arts in Open Media at Concordia University in 2007 with a term as an exchange student at DasArts, Amsterdam, Graduate Studies in Performance. Exploring the intersection of dance, performance, and the visual arts, her work takes the shape of exhibitions, residencies and performances within diverse institutions. Recent residencies include the Pavillon, Palais de Tokyo, and Pépinières Européennes pour jeunes artistes (with Compagnie David Rolland, Nantes). Her recent installation work was exhibited at L’Espace Blank in Paris, by invitation from Christine Macel.

July is part of an ongoing practice of interventions in public space, in which Guttman uses archival research, performance and drawing to collect and create alternate ways of knowing the city. The artist approaches people along boul. Saint- Laurent, and asks to accompany them to their destination. When going towards someone else’s destination, minor aspects of the city reveal themselves.

Mona Sharma is a Montrealer of Indian origin who works primarily in the mediums of drawing and sculpture. Her first two solo shows include The Wedding, at La Centrale. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Concordia University.

It’s Not Impossible- It’s Public This work is intended as a way to give neighbourhood dwellers the opportunity to play the role of an artist by imagining their ideal public art projects for boul. Saint-Laurent. “My job was to draw diagrams of their suggestions. The twist is that I tried to find ways for all of their ideas to coexist harmoniously. My success is debatable.”

Virginie Jourdain is an activist and visual artist, member of the Dyke Rivers collective, and exhibitions coordinator at La Centrale. Through her art practice she questions the processes of normalization and the formatting of identities. Deciphering common discourses and various expertise: juridical, medical, cultural and political, she reformulates practices, objects and gestures that seem trivial but that nevertheless imply forms of exclusion and discrimination.
Florence S.Larose recently obtained her BA in Intermedia/Cyberarts at Concordia University. She works with video, magazine cut outs, flutes and corn syrup. Obsessed with soap operas, karaoke and synthetic hair, with a bit of madness, she explores the interstices between pop culture and feminism.

Pro-Choice Cake Tasting and Spermicidal Performance On Mai 4, 2010, the conservative senator Nancy Ruth suggested to the women who protested in favor of the right to abortion to “shut the fuck up” to avoid aggravating the situation in the context of the upcoming G8 and its maternal health care agenda. In reaction to this anti-feminist comment, Florence S.Larose and Virginie Jourdain propose a pro-choice culinary experience and the live extermination of sperm, to be collected during the day at La Centrale. A true communal experience to express (and digest) our collective anger against political conservatism.
